Maybe there’s more to their approach, but I doubt they run a suite of laboratory tests. I don’t know how far Adobe go, but my impression is they simply deal with: (I’m an iPhone user, but I guess Android users can set a different default camera app.) They’re also addressing a large body of cameras that can shoot RAW from the moment you turn them on, rather than relying on the user to remember to do things the right way. By addressing DSLR/mirrorless, DxO are targeting people who (mostly) have already made a declaration that they are intending to take the photos off the phone onto a personal computer. I’d say a) is a pretty small number, and b) and c) get successively smaller. We may read that there are millions of phones out there, but how many of those users are going to:Ī) purchase a separate app (data says almost no Android users),Ĭ) take those images off the phone for processing on a laptop/desktop computer? That is a not inconsequential number of laboratory sessions. Apple only release one model (as far as the camera is concerned) per year but Samsung release them at a ridiculous rate, and then there are the other manufacturers. I have no data but I question how big a market DxO would be addressing, particularly given the speed at which phones are released. Next… while may be saying things a little controversially, I think she’s on the right track. I have a recollection that it’s not so simple to determine from the EXIF data which lens has even been used in some models. That’s why so many of us think it is the best. They do controlled laboratory testing to address the specific properties of the sensor and lenses. ![]() DxO doesn’t just “add decoding” for camera models. It is not necessary a good thing with endless lines of after-shipping fixes but the other way around can also rise questions - why we are ghosted.I have never understood why DXO does not simply support DNG files from smartphones In that case I got pretty worried about the way Garmin seemed to work with their pre-shipping testing and their product quality. When I opened the Garmin correction log for that product it displayed of never-ending list over many many corrections with many many houndred issues corrected. I´m not at all sure that I prefer the XnView way.Īnother terrible example in my life way a Garmin combined GPS-plotter and chirp-sonar I had in my boat. There I think it was about 70 specifications of what had been fixed and changed. In Photolab´s upgrade info we could read one line that said absolutely nothing and in XnView the picture is the completely opposite. I´m devided when it comes to firmware updates in cameras and bug fixes and new features in service updates in computer programs.Įither I can look at it as a way for a manufacturer to let the users carry out the testing that ought to have been done before the release or either I can be glad that they finally fixed these problems. ![]() Wouldn´t it be nice to get a list over the issues they have fixed and what might be new features? ![]()
